Acropolis Greek Taverna in Liverpool

Absolutely gorgeous food and lots of it. Fast, attentive and super friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. The owner was an absolute star and went out of her way to make us feel very welcome and, most importantly, never rushed.

One word to describe this place shocking! I went last night with some work friends it looked lovely when I went in but thats the only positive I can give it. One staff was rude to my work colleague saying they had been there a number of years well maybe it’s time to retire! On arrival my drink was wrong which fair enough I was still given as the was just going to throw it away my starter came after everyone else’s was only cheesy garlic bread. So I ate mine just as the meal came out. Again mine didn’t come out instead they argued it wasn’t preordered even tho we had a copy on my friends phone which they didn’t want to see so I’m all I had to pay £35 for a hand full of chips, garlic bread and a drink shocking. As they didn’t make my meal until 20 mins after everyone else had finished I did say I’d cancel to which I was told it’s been made now. I had to pay for a meal that I no longer wanted or would eat as I was going for drinks after it and couldn’t take the ‘doggy’ bag in the pubs with me. Would never come back

Fab food with generous portion and super friendly service. The fries was one of the best we ever had. Price was very reasonable as well.

Authentic Greek food, huge portions and a good menu choices. Not too expensive. Staff are really friendly and efficient. A lovely place for a relaxed, delicious meal.

Food and service were both very good but the evening was spoilt by the excessively loud music and even worse, the constant howling and shouting from the Greek belly dancer or whatever she was supposed to be. Ruined a nice evening out. Owner please take note

Food is microwaved. The second you enter the restaurant you can notice how the servers are rushed around whilst the manager stands behind the till doing nothing. One of the servers was being told to serve alcoholic drinks even though she admittedly told us she was underage. Has to send food back twice due to it being cold, this is when we were informed that the food was heated up in a microwave when ordered. 100% definitely DO NOT recommend.

Went for tea here yesterday with my friends. We have never been before but will go back. Food was delicious with generous portion sizes. Staff were very friendly and the place was nice inside. The home made chips were amazing! Would definitely recommend this place if you like traditional Greek food.

My partner an I found this little gem tucked away in West Derby, what a place! Set above a row of shops and another restaurent. The welcome we received and the service was amazing, proper family run business following traditional greek family recipes and cooking styles. We ordered a medium meze for 2, food tasted really fresh an I'd swear that the octopus for calamari was just caught 2 minutes before being served! Georgia honestly couldn't do enough for us to make us feel welcome and feel like family. Looking forward to our next visit

Great authentic food in a lovely venue with fantastic service. Perfect for families and couples wanting a taste of Greece in West Derby. Excellent value for money in terms of food quantity and quality. Good options for pescatarians. The homemade chips are a must.

Where to start! From the minute you sit down to when you leave the owner is attentive and caring, you can tell everyone who works there has a love for the food. The food is excellent, we had the Meze and every item was delicious. As it was our first time the chef served us some of their famous chips on the house (I now know why all the other reviews talk about them). You can see why this place is 4.7 stars, will definitely be returning!

Acropolis prides itself on serving deliciously authentic Greek food at modest prices. A traditional venue with lovely decor, creating a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced with gorgeous salads & homemade chips. Michelle is a wonderful lady who goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. A little heaven for kids with special treats on the house. George is passionate about food and it reflects in all his dishes. The service was very attentive and ticked all the boxes. Highly recommended.

Got the meze platter, every dish they brought out was amazing! Succulent meat, tasty salad & dips, seasoned chips were great! Worth every penny, looking forward to going again!

Well it was my fiancée’s birthday an I took her along with our three kids. First off, the restaurant is stunning. You’d think you were in Greece. Then came the staff who were so warm and accommodating. Then came the food. Oh my god.👌 Me and my daughter had the meze and each relentless course was as delicious as the the last. My unadventurous son had steak which was cooked perfectly. An don’t even get me started on the chips. I WILL be back, and I will be recommending to all my friends and family. You gotta go people. Wonderful evening.👌

Lovely food and service. I always think if the kids feel special it makes you feel happy. The kids menu is great offering a kebab. We all shared th massive maze and it was lovely the kids swept the prawns. We'll done, definitely recommend 👌

We were going out for dinner for my partners Mum's birthday tonight and thought we had made a reservation at a different restaurant but were told on arrival, that their reservation site hadn't been working, and they didn't have our booking. While outside the restaurant thinking where we should go we noticed a Greek Restaurant on the same road and called in on the off-chance that they could fit us in (7 adults & 3 children) and they were happy to accommodate us. The food was lovely, and we had a brilliant meal. The staff were so nice and great with the children and they even brought a cake out with candles and sang 'Happy Birthday'. It was a great night and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Acropolis for a great meal and great service.

After our reservation was not acknowledged by a different restaurant, party of 10 and nowhere to go, we stumbled across this little gem!! They couldn’t of been more accommodating at such short notice. Food was amazing! Kebabs, salads, steaks, perfection. Also the best chips ever!!! The staff are what makes this place extra special and deserve so much credit. Thanks so much for a great evening and I can’t wait to come back

Microwaved Lamb Kleftico, ice cold. Chef microwaved it for 120 seconds instead of 12 minutes by accident. Nice people running it, gave us free drinks, but food quality was poor.

Great little Greek gem tucked away around a corner in West Derby Village. Brilliant service from homely staff, amazing food with ample portions and splendid decor giving great ambience. There's also a good selection of drinks & spirits available from the bar - Greek favourites like Mythos lager and plenty of decent ouzo. Had the Halloumi kebab which comes with rice, chips and a whole host of grilled Mediterranean veg - will come back soon to explore more of this Greektastic menu!

What a discovery yesterday night looking for a place that would accommodate us very last minute. If you like real Greek food, no fancy sauces, no fancy names, just hearty, real, freshly made food, Acropolis in West Derby is your place. The food is wholesome, the kind of flavours any Mediterranean person grew up with. The staff and the owners are so welcoming, and can't do enough to make you feel at home. And by the way, they claim to make the best chips in Europe, and it's not a lie.

Visited this restaurant with my daughter, partner and Granddaughter for my birthday. We were enjoying meal until my daughter found a hair in her dinner. We made the server aware and they said it was a hair from a lettuce. As my daughter is a chef she politely pointed it out it was not and was a black hair which you could plainly see. The server took her plate into the chef and we could instantly hear them laughing loudly in the back. The server again come back and offered a replacement meal which she declined and as no longer felt she could eat as it has put her off. The chef apparently offered to give us a discount off the meal and a free piece of cake. Upon receipt of the bill they had deducted £7.50 off the bill which we disagreed with and the server went into see him again to which we again heard loud laughing. The response was because you have ate half the meal they discounted half the price. We decided to pay the bill as couldn’t be bothered arguing the toss. We will not return or recommend to family or friends due to the attitude of the staff.

We love Greek food but this is up there with the best I have had in England. There are small details like a delicious dressing for the salad that really stand out. It's not a chippy but the chips are excellent. My family had a very generous meze, and I had a very very good kleftiko . It was very quiet but that can't last long as the food served there is top drawer.

We struggled through Tuesday drizzle for a Greek feast on the Acropolis ! Lovely welcome from Helen to a spotless table and the Merlot arrived quickly with icy water. We both love Greek food and can't ever remember better. My friend's chops reminded me of a hillside in Crete where a wizened old man barbecued chops to die for ! This may sound strange but the highlights of the meal for me were George's tart tahini dip and the wonderful salad dressing. We'll be back !

Meal started off ok. Lovely dips. Went downhill after that. Party of 6. 4 people finished their food. Last 2 never got their main meal. After complaining, and almost an hour and a half later, were forced to take the mains home. Manager's excuses just made the mediocre experience a bad one. Now opened the food they packed for us. Half the meat was missing. So for £50 for 2 people we basically got some dips. Shame really, could have been a nice meal

We’re just picked a up a takeaway from Acropolis and boy we’re we impressed!Lovely friendly people working here, great atmosphere.The food was absolutely astonishing! Best Greek food ever tasted.We had veggie moussaka, feta and spinach pie, plenty of chips and rice, Greek salad, humus and a garlic bread.Couldn’t recommend highly enough. Hoping to sit in when it’s possible but definitely planning another takeaway.Thanks again for great food.

The staff here are so friendly and attentive.We were welcomed and escorted to our table..it was quiet at 6pm but we chose this time to keep as distanced as possible under covid restrictions.We chose the medium meze..it was delicious..all courses of good quality.We had a fair bit left over so glad we didnt go largeOur waitress wrapped our last course to take home and the complemetary shot was most welcome as we left..we will definately return!

Went here for my sons birthday on a Sunday and arrived when it opened at 5pm. All staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. We all had 3 courses each and a few drinks including a free shot of ouzo at the end which was a nice touch. Will definitely be going back!

Such friendly family restaurant. We have celebrated a family 80th in the restaurant last year. Made us very welcome and we all had such a lovely night. Food was amazing. Very good value and delicious. Took advantage of the delivery option. Did not expect it to be as nice as when we ate in but it was just as delicious as when we ate in. Would highly recommend

La comida era excelente, me dieron el cordero, era enorme. Disfruté todos los aspectos de este restaurante, el chef incluso salió para ver si lo disfrutamos. Seré honesto, fue uno de los mejores corderos que he tenido en años y las patatas fritas son para morirse. Volveré de nuevo, es una pena que haya esperado tanto tiempo para irme. Bien hecho, fantástico trabajo de la Acrópolis, nos vemos pronto.

Después de ver la camioneta que anunciaba comidas para llevar junto a la Acrópolis estacionada en Queens Drive, decidimos probarla para una celebración familiar el viernes pasado.Esta es una comida de calidad de restaurante que se entrega caliente, por lo que se puede servir de inmediato.Las patatas fritas eran excelentes. Todos lo disfrutaron y fue una parte clave de nuestra velada. (¡También disfruté la parte 2 de mi pierna de cordero el sábado!) Gracias a Michelle por arreglarlo todo.

Debido a que asistieron algunas personas vulnerables, acordamos pedir comida y que se la entregaran.A todos nos encanta la comida griega, no podríamos haber elegido un lugar mejor que la Acrópolis.Hicimos nuestro pedido para 9 personas, el tipo con el que hablé fue muy útil.Cuando llegó la comida, nos sorprendió la cantidad de comida que enviaron. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa, todo.Hizo que la noche fuera muy especial.Además, esta es la primera vez que hago un pedido en cualquier lugar y recibo todo lo que solicité y más. No puedo agradecerles lo suficiente. Primera clase.

Una cálida bienvenida encantadora marcó la pauta para una gran velada. Cada miembro del personal tenía una actitud genuinamente amable y explicaba el menú. Tuve las salchichas de ternera al vino tinto y la pierna de cordero, ambas simplemente excelentes. Realmente no puedo hablar maravillas de toda la experiencia de la noche. Went here for my partner's dad's 60th and the food was amazing, the waitress and waiter were very polite and helpful and the chef was fantastic. Very nice for our first meal post lockdown. Would recommend to anyone.

Magnífica comida fresca. Un poco más caro, pero obtienes lo que pagas y esta fue una comida de calidad y en abundancia. ¡Más 2 cervezas gratis para el Día del Padre! Muy agradecido. El personal es encantador, estará deseando comer cuando vuelva a abrir después del cierre.

Recomiendo encarecidamente la Acrópolis en el pueblo de West Derby. (226 3692) Pedí el pequeño meze esta noche para la recolección de las 6 pm y todo, desde el pedido, el pago y la recolección, fue excelente. La gente fue muy amable cuando fui a recoger, es una pena lo vacío que estaba el lugar. La comida era estupenda y sobras para el almuerzo al día siguiente. (Hojas de parra, albóndigas y salchichas en los recipientes cerrados) ¿Definitivamente comeremos adentro cuando podamos?

Just ordered a take away meal for 4. Didn’t have to wait long before it was ready . Really good size portions and it was absolutely delicious ,enjoyed every mouthful and will definitely order again!

Tuve el placer de ordenar para la entrega un miércoles por la noche y el personal no podría haber sido más útil. La comida era absolutamente excelente y nos la llevaron a la puerta en 20 minutos. Cuando nos dimos cuenta de que faltaba nuestro entrante de albóndigas, volvimos a llamar y la señora no podría haber estado más disculpándose e insistió en entregarlo de inmediato. Cuando llegó la entrega, nos recibieron con dos porciones de albóndigas junto con un huevo de Pascua de cortesía (ya que era Domingo de Pascua ese fin de semana). No me puedo quejar de nuestro pedido y definitivamente lo recomendaría si te gusta la auténtica comida familiar griega. Los tamaños de las porciones son grandes y los precios son más que razonables para una calidad tan alta. ¡Definitivamente volveremos a ordenar desde aquí!

This is the second time I've been to this taverna and it was just a lovely as the first. The food was delicious, good portion sizes and excellent service. The service staff was very attentive and the restaurant is very clean and has a lovely ambiance to it, playing traditional greek music in the background. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent food well cooked and very generous portions. Service was great and Ashleigh our waitress was very efficient, knowledgable and friendly. There were 5 in our group and we all had different meals and everyone said there’s was lovely. Fresh Greek salad and mountains of delicious chips to share. Four of us visited this excellent restaurant for our first time. We were looked after by Michael and his colleagues, service was impeccable and everyone was exceptionally friendly. Food was really tasty - meatballs were beautiful. Had wine and and a few beers. Price was very reasonable. We were entertained by a very good duo who played at the right level.

Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Prices are reasonable. This is the type of place you can go and spend a few hours without feeling like you need to hurry. Would suit an occasion nicely. For smokers there are purpose built cabins on the roof terrace too so you're not just shoved outside in the cold. As my name suggests I am Greek and grew up eating good Greek food. The food here is authentic cooked by Greek chefs. Highly recommended.

This was the second time we have visited this restaurant,the first visit was very good because they new it was our first visit I thought they might have made a special effort (I was wrong) the second time Saturday 26th Oct myself my wife and two Daughters were welcomed like old friends.The food was again very good and they obliged us by changing certain dishes nothing was to much trouble the cost of the food was very reasonable overall a very pleasant experience well done

Went went last night to celebrate my 54th birthday. The staff where amazing and very attentive. The chef cooked us some amazing dishes. We where all given a selection of free deserts and the waiter even brought me out a birthday cake with candles and balloons on it. we where even given free shots at the end of the night. This restaurant went above and beyond to make a birthday special. Such affordable prices. What a fabulous place to spent my birthday

Visited with family for my daughters birthday. Amazing food, good service, and we were entertained by the fabulous Fatma belly dancer. Only complaint was we had to leave. Can’t wait to bring the in laws. Thanks again to all the staff for the amazing food and service.

Food was amazing, king prawns and moussaka delicious. Delightful find of a restaurant, which is reasonably priced and run by Michelle and George. They are the loveliest people, and this place has the feel of eating at a friend’s house - rather than a formal meal out. Ashley the waitress is sweet and chatty and takes care of you! Recommend for good food and a cosy atmosphere.
