Abbey Tea Rooms & Licensed Restaurant in Mendip

We called into the Abbey Tea Rooms for a quick drink and a snack as we only had limited time. The staff were very helpful. The coffee was served nice and hot with hot milk on the side as requested. We only had time for a toasted tea cake but again this was served very nicely. They did have a good selection of cakes and the scones, jam and cream that we saw being served looked very good as did other food, so we shall be going back to try these soon.

Rude and disinterested service, staff seem much more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. Food was pretty substandard too.

I have just left Abbey Tea Rooms having spent some time then with my daughter. We both had an absolutely lovely time thanks to the environment, the food, the drinks and the service. We felt as though we were in a little piece of English tradition. Would definitely recommend.

I cannot recommend this wonderful find, enough; there was nothing I'd change. Everything was 10/10: • food - made as you wait; fresh, local produce; no change seen as an inconvenient • service - friendly; informative and cheerful I would go back in a heartbeat & am already looking forward to working my way through the Specials!

Traditional English tea room, a little over decorated and nice if you like red and pink. There is parking directly opposite. It is dog friendly. It is quite large inside, but the tables are quite tightly packed. It is clean and nicely presented however. I would say it is not disabled friendly due to this, the toilet being unisex and the size of a fridge freezer. The staff were excellent and could not have done more to make our visit enjoyable. Nothing was too much of an ask. There appears to be no set service charge, they do deserve a tip though. This is another establishment were we could not fault the food, while we only had sandwiches, they were really well filled, fresh and well presented. The cakes and deserts we had were equally as good. Vegan, vegetarian and allergy options are also available. Superb coffee. As for value for money, I think you would find it hard to beat, around £75 for lunch for four, not including a service charge. We had booked, it may be worth while doing this as it was busy, especially if you are a party of four or more. We will be in Glastonbury in April next year and will definitely visit again.

It is nice to find still a really traditional tearoom with excellent service and lovely tea and cakes. The staff is very friendly and nothing is too much for them. The service is fast and efficient. We love the traditional decor and atmosphere. We will be definitely back when visiting Glastonbury!

Went for breakfast at this Lovely little tearoom. We cannot fault the staff,they were attentive and generally pleasant. BUT the full English breakfast left us feeling rather nauseous. Anaemic bacon,undercooked eggs,a side of raw tomato and slimy mushrooms. The sausage tasted like a cheap and not so cheerful addition. I stress that the servng staff were lovely,this is directed at the quality of cooking not them.

My wife and I cannot recommend this tea room highly enough. We have never been disappointed. Every time we visit we receive the same professional service. The food is fantastic. A typical old fashioned British tea room, and we love it .

We met up here with family who were staying in the area. I cannot praise the service and food highly enough. I had phoned ahead as I have an unusual food sensitivity, the owner was so helpful and when we arrived she had alerted the staff and they knew all about it. This is not a normal occurrence so it was such a treat. All the food is properly home cooked from local ingredients, accordingly you might have to wait a while but it’s absolutely worth it. The staff were absolutely lovely with our little great nephew. Booking a table is highly recommended the restaurant was full in no time. As we are fairly local we will definitely be back. Arrived on time table waiting for us place absolutely packed cream tea absolutely delicious well worth a visit but I would recommend that you book as they were curing at the door as people left so people were coming in well worth a visit best cream tea I've had in years thoroughly recommend

What a fantastic tea rooms. For any overseas visitors keen to experience a really authentic and traditional English breakfast, this is one of the best I've had anywhere. My dining companion enjoyed her smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. They also make a lovely coffee and the service was excellent. Prices reasonable for the location.

After a disappointing visit earlier this year we decided to visit again. This time the staff knew what they were doing and were very helpful. We had toasted sandwiches they were ok, but not very filling. My husband had cheese and tomato but is was lacking tomatoes. Lovely coffee.

Lovely welcoming quaint old fashioned tea room/restaurant. Opposite the car park in front of the 'Olde Abbey ruins'. Good few tables inside. Waitress and waiter serve with a smile. Very good menu, Breakfast served from 10am, lunches and cream teas. Open 9- 5pm

We enjoyed the most delicious scones and tea here... and on another day a delicious knickerbocker glory! So good! The place itself is very lovely and staff is so nice and attentive, too.

This tea rooms is picture postcard perfect, looking like you've stepped into the 1940s. It was pouring the day we went, so we were very happy to get inside somewhere so cosy and welcoming. What wasn't old fashioned, was the quality of the food and the service, as both were excellent. The food was high quality and delicious, with generous portions. The staff were friendly and the service very smooth.

We had the cream tea, the scones were absolutely delicious, so light. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The tea rooms are situated just opposite the Abbey. It was nice to see a traditional tea room.

If you come to Glastonbury a visit to Abbey Tearooms is a must. The cream teas are amazing, as is all their food in fact! The staff are so helpful and the surroundings are lovely.

Lovely little tearoom in the centre of Glastonbury. We had walked in from our campsite and it was about to rain (again!) so we popped in for tea for two. Really friendly staff and quick service. £3 each for tea, which we thought was expensive, however it came in a large pot with another pot of hot water, so plenty to drink. Old fashioned tearooms, with good old fashioned service.

Visited today and was shocked at the service for coffee and snack.I ordered a smoked salmon sandwich and coffees to be told the only bread they had was almond bread so declined the order the drinks arrived after a long wait to find that the (large) coffee cups were only 3/4 full .I complained about the bread (they didn't seem to realise what a nut allergy is and what could happen) considering that directly opposite there is a bakery full of local baked bread pretty shameful really. When we lived locally we used the tearoom often, I did ask if the place had changed owners but was told no.The outcome is we will now give this place a wide berth and will not return.such a shame as this was a good place for coffee and food.

We called in for Lunch. There was a choice of 4 or 5 choices on their Specials Board. I had Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom Pie. It came with roast potatoes, carrots, leaks, cauliflower and broccoli, all freshly cooked. Good value at £9-90. My wife had smoked salmon and soft cheese sandwiches, which came with a side salad, looked nice. There was a wide choice of sandwiches along with scones, jacket potatoes and more.Lunch was so good we came back later for a cream tea.Recommended.

Stayed in Glastonbury for a couple of days. popped in just after 4pm, unfortunately the kitchen was closed. However we had a lovely cream tea, warm scones and loads of clotted cream Mmmmm. We had a look at the menu and decided to have breakfast there the next day, and what a nice breakfast it was. Everything was locally sourced, plenty of toast, a wide range of teas to choose from. The redbush is particularly good. Nice friendly service, will definitely call again when in the area.

Popped in here on a trip to Glastonbury. Very nice tearoom and very nice, friendly staff but we found the quality of food a little lacking. The scones were quite small and plain only (no fruit scones). The carrot, lentil & coconut soup is best avoided. Tasteless and distinctly absent of any lentil. Still, it was a nice place to duck in and get out of the rain.

Stopped here for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised. Myself and my partner wanted to grab some lunch out for my birthday, I had wanted to go for an afternoon Tea but could not warrant the £30pp price tag I had seen at other places nearby. We were quickly shown to a table and began looking through the menu. Other people were eating and all the food smelt and looked delicious. The menu had many delicious options hot and cold. We decided on the afternoon tea at £10per person. We both had cream cheese and cuecumber sandwiches. Scone, jam and clotted cream and a slice of cake, we cld choose from a selection. I choose coconut and lime and my partner had a chocolate biscuit bake. All served with a large pot of English breakfast tea. It was absolutely delicious. From the good quality tea to the cake. It was ample serving and I was unable to finish mine. The service was prompt and friendly.Only negative is i cannot get the savoury afternoon tea on their menu out of my head now! I will have to return again very soon!and maybe again to try the lovely smelling hot food.

In search of tea and cake, we chose the Abbey Tea Rooms as they had featured recently on 'Staycation' on BBC tv. So disappointed. Overcrowded (honestly, they've crammed in so many tables and chairs that you can barely move), shabby, tiny and grubby customer toilet, smears on paper tablecloth from previous diners' meal, everywhere in need of a good clean. My cake was ok, but my partner's lemon drizzle cake was dry and didn't taste of lemon. The staff of delightful young men doing their best to keep things moving were the one positive.

My son and I went there for 2 breakfasts, both times he had the small cooked breakfast and no faults found, an afternoon tea and a Sunday roast, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious! I am used to eating rare beef so was worried about the Sunday roast, but even though it wasn't rare it was out of this world, the roast potatoes were lovely and crisp, the vegetables were just right! The Sticky Toffee pudding was to die for, definitely needed ice cream to try kill the sweetness.For the afternoon tea we both had scones, my son had the sweet and I had the savoury, yet again delicious, maybe a bit too much cream, but when I questioned it, reply was just right "Some people might complain if we don't give enough"!I Highly recomend this to everyone who visits Glastonbury
