Never disappoints - the food and service are always first class. I visit usually once or twice a month as I live locally. My favourite dish is Lamb Karahi. I also like the ambience at Aahar, it’s fresh and modern. All in all a great local Indian

The most disappointing meal we've had from the Ahaar!! We had a special biriyani which was OK, however the description on the menu said served with medium plain curry sauce....ours came with a red sweet coconut flavour?... the bhaji's were very dense and greasy and the peshawar nann was like a pancake with blobs of bright yellow coconut filling...nothing like the nann we've had there before which has been very good....all in all very disappointing...we put most of the meal in the bin....

THREE OF US WENT TO AAHAR FOR THE FIRST TIME. A REALLY GREAT MEAL, ONE OF THE BEST CURRY NIGHTS WE HAVE HAD. WILL CERTAINLY GO AGAIN. AND THE PARKING WAS GOOD!

Take Away. I’ve dropped off one star as they have a hygiene rating if 3 from the local council. 5 should be readily achievable. Service was friendly and prompt. Items were ready exactly as promised. Lemon rice was tasty, but slightly greasy, so again slight mark down. Chicken Kolapuri, described as hot on the menu was at the low end of medium from my perspective. Sauce was tasty though. The chicken, which appeared to have been cooked on skewers separately, then placed into the sauce was slightly tough, not succulent. Garlic Naan was very tasty. I would use this restaurant again if they can up their hygiene rating to a 5.

Terrible experience. Food was uneatable, the meat hard and overdried in all the 6 dishes we ordered. Like shoe soles. The sevice got loud and aggresive when we complained about the food. It was so terrible in every aspect, that the mood for the proposal, that was planned there, was postponed to another day and onother place. Very disappointing!

I visited Aahar for dinner with a group of friends. The food was delicious and generous, and the waiters all very helpful. They had a good range of beers and drinks too.

Went to Aahar for a meal with a party of 5 and most of the meal was enjoyable.However my tandoori starter was really bland and very overcooked which I informed them of.Asked for chicken kolapuri but unfortunately it came as chicken tikka kolapuri and it was very salty.It stated on the menu that the chicken was marinated but I didn’t think it meant chicken tikka which I don’t like in a curry but this was probably my mistake.Overall certainly not as good as previous visits at all.

Came here for a family meal. Had a takeaway numerous times here, but this was the first time to sit in. Absolutely outstanding service, food very nice. Nice to have a decent place on doorstep and within walking distance. Can't wait to come here again for food.

The Aahar restaurant is one of the most delicious and friendly atmosphere restaurant in Pintypool, New Inn area. Their food quality is extraordinary and serving portion is too many. Their hygiene rating is 5. So no worry about your health. I always prefer people have to try to take delicious Bangladeshi Indian food from this restaurant.

Food s little pricier than normal but good quality. Service pretty lacking as reflected in some of the other comments on here. I arrived fairly early with just one other person inside. Frankly when I asked for a table for one the waiters looked like I had just disturbed his evening. Service was inattentive and unfriendly. The other waiter stood like a statue most of the evening. The food was good it must be said If a little bit more pricey than normal. Possibly a good take out / delivery place but definitely not for a night in . You really need to brush up on your interpersonal skills guys. For example. I'm the last one in the restaurant, I'm heading for the door ( a reasonable walk with plenty of time to react ) , no attempt to converse with " have a good evening " or "thank you " and God forbid they open the door to let you out. Not reccomended other than for take out.

Simply the best Indian food we've ever had. We came here for our anniversary a few years ago and loved it. We returned this evening and loved it even more! Food is out of this world. Everything is cooked perfectly and has so much flavour, my taste buds were dancing in my mouth! Can't recommend it enough.

Good food. Would like more Indian restaurants to serve Quorn dishes but the fish curry I had was lovely. Reasonable prices. Limited parking here but lots of nearby side roads to park.

Meh. Barely ok. First rule of good service. Even if you're really busy, acknowledge that your next paying customer is waiting. Make eye contact, say hello. We'll forgive you slow service if you're busy, but not being ignored.

Been a couple times to sit down, plus a few takeaways. Service is always top class, polite and timely. Food is VERY nice, hot, fresh and loaded with flavour. Portion sizes are perfect too. By far the best in the area out of all the ones we've been too. They are a v.small amout pricier than some others, but it's worth it. Also, you know how popular a business is when their restaurant is packed out, like it was yesterday. Solid 9.5/10 imo.

Abdul and Akhter are simply the best team, carefully looking after each and every one of there diners. We go every week with a very welcomed service The food is so well presented and freshly cooked, we always enjoy our meal and the atmosphere that the restaurant creates. We highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the finest Indian cuisine.

First time visiting Pontypoole and had read online that this was the best rated Indian around. Upon arriving, the staff who seated us was incredibly rude. He already seemed very unhappy to be seating us. Then he scolded my mum who wanted to start ordering mains straight away when he wanted to take our drinks order. We've never seen someone treat customers like that let alone experience it ourselves. We decided to leave before ordering.

Restaurant busy when we arrived - great sign. Extensive menu ,some old favourites, some more unusual but something for everyone.We shared 2 mixed starters for 2 between 5 - plenty even for the hungriest of us ,meat was tender ,moist and well spiced.Portions of mains and sides were generous ,no chance of leaving hungry . Particularly enjoyed Saag paneer ,green garlic lamb and chicken shashlik .Staff were really friendly . Definitely recommend if you are in the area and enjoy Indian food .

This site lists Aahar as having 'vegan options', something that needs to be removed.Me: 'Do you do vegan options?'Aahar: 'Not specifically vegan but is it vegetables you want?'Me: 'Well yes, but with no cream, butter etc.'Aahar: 'We can't guarantee that sir.'So, in summary, don't visit if you're vegan or have any food allergies!

Amazing curry house with friendly staff!

Food is always delicious and staff always amazing. But please, go back to proper chips rather than fries. This doesn't take away from how amazing the food is though.

Came here as an afterthought when we were let down by a nearby place and found this amazing hidden gem. An amazing establishment that offered excellent service and excellent food. Was really impressed with this place right from the very start and will certainly be back the next time we are anywhere near here. Well done folks!!

Have always been impressed by quality of food, always feels freshly cooked and very hot when we collect. Spices wise the meat is always a nice vibrant taste and personally it is the right mix of spicy but not to hot. Have tried different Indians but always go back. Additionally in the current situation they seem to manage Covid well, nice to see every masked up and distances kept. Perhaps 1 negative.... be even better if they delivered :)

I've had several curries here in the past and although not outstanding they have been ok. My recent expensive purchase however was most disappointing. The curry was awful, like a watery soup with added flavour to each different curry. My boys wouldn't touch it. When you pay a lot of money for food like this you expect something far nicer. I can't see myself ever going there again.

Since Covid we have been restricted to home eating. We have made a point of trying a takeaway once a week and have found the food at the Aahar to be the best well done

My partner and I visited Pontypool as a very last minute decision. We were recommended this Indian by the hotel staff we stayed in and we were very happy with the meal. They offered different dishes as well as the ones you may expect in an Indian restaurant. The food was lovely very well presented and very tasty. Would recommend this restaurant.

First time ordering takeout last week after meaning to for a while. We decided on the special wings, samosas, bhajis, tandoori chicken, narial duck, garlic chilli chicken, tarka daal, lamb dhansak, bombay aloo with garlic and coconut rice. Portion size was just right. Not too filling which can often be a problem. Not overly priced either. Everything was beyond our expectations and we've already started planning our next order. Fast becoming our favourite Indian. Definitely somewhere we'll return again.

Excellent service and high quality food. Very tasty - doesn't overpower with heat, but great depth of flavour. Highly recommend the vegetable bhuna and apricot lamb curry.

I've dined here numerous times the food is hot plentiful with a nice atmosphere but I must say everytime I find the staff unpleasant borderline rude with no personalities. No warm welcome. Many reviews compliment the staff but I've yet to come here and be greeted pleasantly or see a smile throughout my visit. On a positive note we always have a nice meal and enjoy our night with the company we go with.

Food was fine but we were rushed out of the restaurant for the next guests so it’s more about their income rather than customer service so don’t go there if you want to chill with a meal ...

Very helpful and friendly food was first class

Ordered at 6 and was ready in 40 minutes.The staff were correctly geared up and kept us to the correct distance.Food was hot. My wife complained the madras was water unfortunately but my curry was spicy and hot.Would recommend.

Some parking onsite and nice looking typical Indian restaurant. Good selection of starters and mains and fairly priced but none of us were blown away by our meals. All hot, fresh and plenty of it but bland and non exciting. Very meat-shy keema rice and very ordinary ‘takeaway on a plate’. Lovely people but missing that good restaurant highest quality food.

Able to cope with large dining groups. As a meat eater I can, surprisingly, recommend the Vegetable Balti and Peshwari Naan. It tasted really good. Very busy on a Friday night. Also does take-out. A little costly but worth it.

Went out for an early Valentines. Atmosphere was nice and the staff were very friendly. Food was amazing.. can't fault anything about the experience.

Some parking outside and opposite.Still looks well maintained by the management team as you go in.Nice chilled vibe with water effects inside.Quickly seated by friendly staff.No smells as previously identified by others. All good here which was kept nice and warm in winter.Lovely crisp Poppadoms with very fresh chutney tray.Onion bhajis were amazing with two of us enjoying. The prawn cocktail had plenty of prawns and tasted fantastic.Chicken Pathia was beautiful tangy with plenty of chicken.The prawn madras was spicy with lots of fresh prawns.The chicken dopiaza was "lush" which is technical talk of very "tidy".Toilets were very clean.Food was very reasonably priced when you included in drinks and that you don't need to clean up afterwards is an added bonus.Would recommend.

Excellent no other words needed

First time visit on a recommendation. Food was reasonable, however we did have to wait around an hour and a half for our food to arrive after ordering. This was a little longer than we are used to. The restaurant was not full. There was a large party there but still empty tables so not sure why there was such a big delay.

Been here before and thought it was excellent, so was confident that it would be a successful trip for my Birthday and right on cue it didn't disappoint. Great food and service. Had to wait a little bit longer for our food but that's because it's so popular, ergo, really busy. Who cares about waiting a while when you have a drink, a plate of popadoms and some delicious dips ( and good company)

I have visited the Aahar on a few occasions and always found the food to be nice, the staff were extremely polite and the cost of the meals very reasonable overall a pleasant experience.

Been coming to this place for years as it's on our doorstep we live a few houses down on the highway, unfortunately it's my last as our last takeaway here was bad aswell so thought I'd finally give an honest review. I was told 20 mins so went there 15 mins to pick up. Starters were cold not even warm ! The chicken was full of gristle really chewy and the garlic nann was incinerated not sure how it even left the kitchen like this. I'd give it 1 but apart from the chicken the curry was ok and the pompadoms were nice, really disappointed.

Had a lovely meal at the Ahaar tonight although we nearly walked out as the restaurant had a bad smell as soon as we entered. It was the smell of drains, which I’ve read on here just now that other people have commented about. Staff were obliging and agreed to move us to another table. Smell did improve but was still there none the less. We’ve been to this restaurant before and this hasn’t been an issue in the past so I assume it’s just a drain or possibly an air conditioning issue. Hope they get it sorted soon as the food here is excellent.

We are pretty regular visitors to Aahar and have been for a couple of years now. The staff are friendly and the food is great. Parking can be a little awkward as the car park fills up really quickly but there is other parking within a 2 min walk.The takeaway is pretty decent but if you want a great meal you have to go and sit in. They offer some really nicely done curries I can't recommend this place enough.

The Aahar is one of the finest Indian restaurants in the Pontypool and Cwmbran area. The choice and quality of the food is excellent and the friendliness of the staff make for a perfect evening.

Not a stranger to the Sahar and with good reason. Excellent food, attentive but subtle service and pleasant surroundings. Highly recommended for a proper culinary experience with taste . Definitely not the usual run of the mill curry shop..

We were a group of 7 to celebrate a colleagues retirement. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. The vegetarian meal was particularly good and had a large variety of vegetables. I would highly recommend this restaurant

This is by far the best Indian takeaway around, the food is consistent. When ordering the same meal at other takeaways the food often tastes different depending what chef cooks it. My favourite from here is the gurka massalla, I've eaten at a few Indian restraunts and takeaways and none are as good.

Tasty and delicately spiced, no half measures here, plenty to eat and cooked to perfection. Staff friendly and knowledgeable about their dishes. Worth a visit you won't be disappointed.

Had a great meal here on Saturday night. You can tell the staff here really try hard to maintain high standards of customer service and they are friendly and helpful. The menu is great and has a few things you do not normally find which is great. Decor is modern and well thought out. I wish we had a restaurant like this in the village I live!
