CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH.. cooked

comment_iconOpinions

Three Course has changed food and concept without amending the website. Now it's a short menu of burgers and ribs instead of simple, fresh Scandinavian style. Cooking was atrocious even for the new simplified food. A veal chop cooked to leather. Soft shell burger squidgy and unpleasant. No sides or veg or salads. The "chef" simply can't cook. You have the feeling they are running this place by the seat of their pants - economically that is. David, the very nice and embarrassed manager, told us the owner had gone to work in another restaurant. Other customers have complained that it isn't what they expected. On the plus side, the interior decor is quirky and appealing and the wine list has some delicious, well-priced labels but, on the basis of our experience, it's unlikely to stay open much longer.

Both food and decor are great.

We went on a quiet evening and had the place almost to ourselves. The service was impeccable.

The only disappointment was that the menu is significantly to the (superior) menu on their website, and that the fixed price is no longer offered. Vegetarian options are fewer than the online menu indicates, in particular. However we still found something we wanted and it was delicious.

A good looking, friendly resturant with good quality food, and a good location. A pity the menu online was not what they served. Summer burgers and grills. Not the fish I was looking forward to.
Nice place, nice staff.

We went to this restaurant for the menu posted online online to find when we kept our booking that the restaurant had made itselkf over to a burger an rib house. The waiter, a chaming man, agred that the posted m,emu was miucjh more ap[pealing than the actrual menu which he seemd to convey might be a respnse to l;ocal demand.

I love burgers but I prefer to go to Byron. My lamb burger was an attempt at a Rosemary tour de force. It was more of a semi-detached than a tower.

If the website would offer what is actually on offer I'm sure much local trade would appreciate it.
If they would update their website I'm sure I would have had no objection to a pleasant and palatable local burger house.

I stoill think their original menu loked great and I'm sorry if the local custom doidn't appreciate it. Not jhavong had the pleasure of tryingity I can't say.
But on Friday night we don't jave th energu to move on when the booking does not deliverf what was promised.

boo hoo

One of the smallest restaurants I have been to. Maybe 25 diners max and an open-plan kitchen in the dining room. Food is very good and one can tell the ingredients are carefully selected and of high quality. The only negative is that the bathrooms should be refurnished to a higher standard to fit with the food and the price of the food.

Great ambience, a tight menu and very good service... not bad for a man that claims it's a hobby; but then I guess hobbies are those things we have a passion for. The food was fresh, we presented and was paired with some lovely wines. We had the langoustine for starters - and although a little peel for some - I was left wanting more. I had the saffron fish soup (fresh + fragrant) and the lovely wife had the venison ragu (delicious) for mains, rounded off with chocolate (please sir, can I have some more) cake and a sumptuous maple cheese cake. Make sure you get some of the fresh kale salad... it was full of flavour and we ordered seconds - greedy but great! Would I recommend it... YES. The only suggestion, don't choose the table under the range hood... I cooked at the same time as the meal!

Perhaps my expectations were a little high having read so many good reviews but we were slightly disappointed after eating here last weekend. The setting/decor is very nice although the tables are perhaps a bit too close to each other when dining with 2 people. My starter (langoustines) was ok but nothing special, the main - a fish stew - was not served very hot, perhaps a little bland and very creamy. The wine list is not great; 3 whites and 3 reds only offering limited decent red options. Service was very good and friendly.

The food, ambiance and setting were delightful. Everything is cooked in view and the menu is explained expertly. it is a small venue, with very light background music, with lots of little quirks on display! The potions are large so you will not go hungry, try the side portion of fresh kale, with parmesan, just sprinkle some black pepper on and is is scrummy! I had the pheasant which was lovely but served with two large portions, one would have been enough. The wines are delightful, not a huge menu but something for everyone. We were a table of 8 and all our food was served at the same time, with no-one waiting.

Reading the previous reviews, the website and the online menu I have no doubt this is a great little restaurant. However, our experience did not live up to the reviews. The place was almost empty so lacking in ambience a little but it was late so not their fault. We loved the open kitchen environment and the interior design of the restaurant with various ceiling lights and knick-knacks making it very homely.

The starters were good with us choosing the langoustines and the gravad lax. We both chose the pheasant breast for mains which was unfortunately so dry I couldn't finish it. It was served with a huge portion of boiled potatoes (which we also couldn't finish) and some veg. We didn't stay for dessert due to the lateness of the evening.

All that said I have the feeling our experience of the mains dish was an exception and I will certainly be visiting again for a second chance! Great wine. Great service.

Two of us visited this restaurant tonight for the first time after being recommended it by some friends, we were very happy we took their advice! Three courses cost £28 each and the fresh langoustines that I had and the gravlax and potatoes pancakes my partner had to start did not disappoint the langoustines were sweet and full of flavour and the gravlax we both agreed the best we'd ever had! For mains I had soft shell crab burger and my partner the veal chop once again both well cooked and delicious with fresh vibrant sides. The owner was welcoming and friendly and the fact the kitchen is open creates a intimate environment where you feel part of the passion in the preparation of what your eating! I highly recommend this restaurant and also highly recommend your book! We will be returning very soon hopefully for a lobster and seafood night!(also note different days may have different themes and the restaurant is only open on certain evenings )

Having spotted this place a while ago, it has been on our list to make a visit. We came here for Sunday brunch as a treat to celebrate some good news. We had high hopes as the concept seemed great, and all other reviews seemed promising. Sadly, we felt that although the atmosphere was great, the service adequate, the food was a real disappointment. To us it seemed beyond strange to serve French toast with a heavy helping of cinnamon with savoury food. The combination of cinnamon and cured salmon was just odd! All the hot food was served on cold plates which meant that after a little wait between kitchen and table our eggs, in particular were completely stone cold. I appreciate what they are trying to do here, but please serve hot food HOT, and please at least warn your customers that if they choose the French toast it will create a cinnamon infused mish-mash of spice and sweet and fish! We will go back for one of their special events, but not for breakfast.

I love this skandi- restaurant/ cafe! The food is of a very high quality and it looks incredibly colourful and beautifully presented. The Sunday Brunch is a must- generous portions of hash brown, mushrooms, asparagus and sausages with eggs go alongside french toast or fat American style pancakes with maple syrup. Everything on the Sunday menu is excellent. I recently had lunch on a Tuesday with a friend and it was a wonderful experience. I ordered a Smorgasbord of mushrooms, Beetroot and samphire on top of dark rye bread with warm goats cheese: as you can imagine, it was devine. My friend had the Frikadella brioche with potato salad which looked amazing and was practically inhaled. I have had an evening meal at 3 Course and it was of a very high standard- the burger was wonderfully moist and complex and the blondie: a perfect conclusion. The coffee is good and the homemade lemonade is a particular highlight. Above all the service is wonderful, warm and friendly.

We love it here, so pleased that a high quality, different cafe/bistro has opened in this area (near to the Balls Pond Road junction with Essex Road). The menu is excellent, Scandinavian themed - so unusual open sandwiches on dark, flat Scandinavian bread, with unusual toppings like meatballs + sauce, or picked herrings in sauce (sounds horrible, but it was v nice). The best value is the 3 course lunch, where you get delicious home made soup, main course is a small home made pie with salad, and a slice of cake for dessert. I think that costs £8.95 from memory, which I had today. They also do home made lemonade, in carafes, which is really refreshing.Coffees are served in glass tumblers, not cups. Their cakes are great too, I had passion cake today, which was delicious. It's already becoming popular here, it's packed for brunch at the weekend. Deservedly so, as a lot of thought & originality has gone into creating this place. The owner & staff are always very friendly & welcoming too. Highly recommended! You can also have a main course as a lunchbox to takeaway, for £5.95.
